The Federal Government has officially launched the BisonFly Project, a new digital system aimed at significantly reducing air travel expenditures across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This initiative, unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, underscores the government's commitment to fiscal discipline and enhanced transparency in its operations.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on Friday, the BisonFly Project will centralize and streamline all flight bookings for federal civil servants through a dedicated, technology-driven platform. This strategic move is designed to leverage the government's collective purchasing power, enabling it to secure bulk discounts and better coordinate travel schedules across various MDAs.

Spearheaded by the Ministry's Efficiency Unit, the system incorporates advanced digital tools to foster greater transparency, minimize operational inefficiencies, and negotiate more competitive airfares with airlines. Minister Edun emphasized the project's core objective, stating that it is a "strategic initiative designed by the Federal Ministry of Finance to reduce the cost of air travel across the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government through a centralized, technology-enabled system."

The BisonFly Project will integrate digital booking tools and a centralized platform, ensuring a more efficient and transparent process for all official government travel. Expected to become operational in the coming months, this initiative represents a significant stride towards a more streamlined and cost-effective approach to government operations.

Highlighting the importance of institutional reform in achieving long-term cost savings, Minister Edun pointed out that the BisonFly Project aligns directly with the government's dedication to prudent financial management. He further explained that by centralizing travel coordination and securing discounted rates, the project mirrors successful cost-saving strategies employed by international organizations such as the World Bank.

The Permanent Secretary for Special Duties at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Raymond Omenka Omachi, lauded Minister Edun's leadership and vision in driving this initiative. He recognized the BisonFly Project as a benchmark for fiscal responsibility within the public sector and potentially beyond.

Developed through a collaborative effort between the Ministry’s Efficiency Unit, ICT advisors, and key stakeholders, the BisonFly Project will be overseen by a dedicated implementation team tasked with ensuring its successful and timely rollout, as well as the achievement of measurable cost savings. Minister Edun urged the implementation team to prioritize the full realization of the project's objectives, stressing its importance and the urgency of its effective execution.
