Juventus' push for a Champions League return suffered a blow on Wednesday as they fell 1-0 to Parma in a rescheduled Serie A fixture, missing the opportunity to reclaim a top-four spot.
Mateo Pellegrino scored the only goal of the match with a stoppage-time header in the first half, extending Parma’s unbeaten run to six matches under coach Cristian Chivu. Juventus, now sitting fifth with five games remaining, remain one point behind Bologna in the battle for the final UCL qualification place.
Compounding Juventus’ troubles, star striker Dusan Vlahovic was substituted at halftime with an apparent thigh injury. The Turin side had recently replaced former coach Thiago Motta with Igor Tudor in a bid to salvage their season, but the defeat has increased pressure on the new manager.
The fixture was one of four matches postponed earlier in the week following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88. A minute of silence was held before kickoff in his honor.
Lazio Overtake Roma, Climb to Sixth
Lazio moved back into sixth place with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Genoa, thanks to goals from Valentín Castellanos and Boulaye Dia. The match turned in Lazio’s favor after Genoa’s debutant Sebastian Otoa was shown a red card for a foul on Mattia Zaccagni.
The game was temporarily halted when smoke from flares lit by Genoa ultras blanketed the field. Lazio themselves finished with 10 men after Reda Belahyane was sent off for a late challenge.
Elsewhere in Serie A
- Fiorentina rallied from behind to win 2-1 at Cagliari, with second-half goals from Robin Gosens and Lucas Beltran sealing the comeback.
- Torino defeated Udinese 2-0, with Ché Adams scoring in the first half and Ali Dembele adding a late goal.
