Nollywood actor Habeeb Alagbe has revealed the challenges he faced early in his career due to his physique, sharing how industry biases against his slender frame nearly derailed his dreams.

In a candid interview on Babaibe TV’s YouTube channel, Alagbe recounted painful experiences where fellow actors and filmmakers dismissed him for roles, citing his "small body" as a disqualifying factor—despite acknowledging his talent.

"They Said I Was Too Skinny" – The Pain of Rejection

Alagbe, who began his career in English-language television series, explained that while many praised his acting skills, his physical appearance often became an unfair barrier.

"Sometimes, when actors invited me to feature in their movies and I was given a script, they would admit that I was a good actor," he recalled. "But then, some would say, ‘You have a small body; you’re too skinny,’ and refuse to give me roles."

The repeated rejections took an emotional toll. "It made me cry so many times," he admitted. "I’m not God—I didn’t create myself this way."

A Reflection on Industry Beauty Standards

Alagbe’s experience sheds light on the often unspoken biases in Nollywood, where certain body types are favored over others, regardless of talent. His story echoes the struggles of many actors who face discrimination based on looks rather than ability.

While some may argue that certain roles require specific physical attributes, Alagbe’s case raises questions about whether the industry should be more inclusive, allowing diverse body types to thrive in varied performances.

Overcoming the Odds

Despite the setbacks, Alagbe persevered, proving that talent and determination can outweigh superficial judgments. His willingness to speak out may inspire other aspiring actors facing similar challenges to keep pushing forward.

Audience Reactions: Should Physique Determine Casting?

The interview has sparked discussions online, with many fans expressing support for Alagbe and criticizing the industry’s narrow standards. Others, however, argue that certain roles demand particular physical traits for authenticity.

Alagbe’s story is a reminder that behind the glitz of Nollywood, many actors battle unseen hurdles—and resilience, not just appearance, defines true success.
