BusinessDay Publisher to Lead Efforts in Strengthening Alumni Collaboration and Engagement
Frank Aigbogun, publisher of BusinessDay Newspapers, has been elected chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Forum of Alumni Association of the Institute of Management and Technology (FAA-IMT). His election took place on Monday, April 21, 2025, in Enugu, where he garnered strong support from alumni members across the country.
Aigbogun’s emergence as BOT chairman marks a new chapter in the leadership of the association, with expectations that his extensive experience in media and public engagement will help advance the forum's goals.
In his acceptance speech, Aigbogun highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration among all stakeholders in the IMT alumni community. He emphasized that progress can only be achieved through collective efforts, especially under the stewardship of the national president, Agodi Kanu.
“There is a critical need for synergy. We must work hand in hand, leveraging our diverse experiences and networks, to strengthen our alma mater and enhance the relevance of this forum,” Aigbogun stated.
Aigbogun, who also serves as a director of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and the chairman of the Impact Investors Foundation (IIF), underscored the vital role of the alumni association in the overall growth and development of IMT. He expressed his confidence in the newly constituted BOT, stating his belief that they would not fail in their responsibilities.
Similarly, Anthonia Ekwo was elected to serve as the vice-chairman of the BOT, further strengthening the leadership structure.
Other distinguished individuals elected to the Board of Trustees include George Moghalu, the Labour Party governorship candidate for the upcoming November 8th election in Anambra State and the immediate past Managing Director/CEO of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA); Etofolam Osuji, the vice-president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); and Michael Akinbola.
Members of the alumni association present at the election pledged their unwavering support and loyalty to the newly elected BOT members, expressing their collective commitment to restoring the founding fathers' vision for the institute.
Agodi Kanu, the national president of FAA-IMT, expressed his delight at the outcome of the election, describing it as a significant milestone and a "dream come through." He assured the BOT leadership of the National Executive Council's (NEC) full support and pledged the council's commitment to the sustained advancement of the alumni association.
Kanu reminded the newly elected trustees that their selection was based on merit and that they now serve as the frontline ambassadors of the association.
Mark Eze, the secretary of the BOT, who also holds the positions of IMT Public Relations Officer (PRO) and alumni liaison officer, and was the convener of the inaugural meeting, expressed his optimism that the newly formed BOT represents a "new deal and a new dawn" not only for the alumni community but for IMT as a whole.
Gozie Ogbodo, the rector of IMT Enugu, in his remarks, challenged the alumni association to take on the crucial task of restoring IMT to its former glory. He emphasized that the alumni association is expected to contribute back to the institution without expecting anything in return, highlighting the spirit of giving back that should characterize their engagement.
Uche Ogah, the chairman of Masters Energy Group, who also contributed to the meeting, affirmed his strong commitment to the institute and pledged to continue his efforts in supporting IMT's growth and development.
Agatha Nnaji, the managing director of Geometric Power Limited, acknowledged the groundbreaking achievements of the current rector and assured the new BOT leadership of her unwavering support and availability whenever needed.
The newly elected members of the Board of Trustees were officially inaugurated on April 17th at the institute’s council chamber by the rector of IMT Enugu, marking the formal commencement of their leadership roles within the alumni association.
