Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is set to miss the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona this weekend and likely the remainder of the season after suffering a severe muscle injury during Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Getafe.

The club confirmed on Thursday that the 20-year-old Frenchman has sustained a complete tear of the tendon in his left abductor muscle, an injury that typically requires an extended recovery period. Camavinga was forced off in the closing stages of the match after coming on as a halftime substitute for the injured David Alaba.

Blow to Madrid’s Trophy Hopes

The timing of Camavinga’s injury is particularly devastating for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, as they prepare for a high-stakes Clásico showdown with Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday in Seville. The young midfielder has been a key figure in Madrid’s midfield this season, offering energy, versatility, and composure in both defensive and attacking transitions.

Ancelotti acknowledged after the Getafe match that it would be "hard" for either Camavinga or Alaba to feature in the final. The Austrian defender also picked up a muscular issue during the game, though the club has yet to provide a detailed update on his condition. Alaba trained separately indoors on Thursday, suggesting he remains a doubt for the weekend.

Recovery Timeline Uncertain

Real Madrid’s medical staff stated that Camavinga’s "recovery will be assessed," leaving his availability for the remainder of the season in serious doubt. With La Liga’s title race effectively over—Barca holds a comfortable lead—the focus will shift to ensuring the midfielder is fully fit for the next campaign.

The injury comes at a crucial stage of the season, with Madrid still competing in the Champions League semifinals against Manchester City. While Camavinga’s absence will be felt in domestic competitions, Ancelotti will hope to have other midfield options—including Luka Modrić, Toni Kroos, and Aurélien Tchouaméni—ready to step up.

Ancelotti’s Midfield Dilemma

With both Camavinga and potentially Alaba unavailable, Ancelotti faces a selection headache ahead of the Copa del Rey final. The Italian manager may have to rely on Dani Ceballos or shift Ferland Mendy into a more defensive role if Alaba fails to recover in time.

Camavinga’s injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for Madrid this season, following long-term absences for Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois at various points. The club will now have to navigate the final stretch of the season without one of their most dynamic young talents.

As the squad prepares for Saturday’s final, all eyes will be on whether Alaba can recover in time—and how Ancelotti reshapes his midfield in Camavinga’s absence.

What’s next for Real Madrid?

  • Copa del Rey Final: vs. Barcelona – Saturday, April 29 (Seville)
  • Champions League Semifinals: vs. Manchester City – May 9 (1st leg)
  • La Liga: Four matches remaining, though the title seems out of reach

For now, Madrid must regroup quickly, as the chance for silverware against their fiercest rivals hangs in the balance.
