Nigerian music icon Innocent "2Face" Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has been appointed Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach to the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.

The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the award-winning artist to the Benue State Government House in Makurdi. Governor Alia expressed appreciation for 2Baba’s public endorsement of his leadership and his early support for the 2027 political cycle.

“More Than Music”: From Global Stage to Grassroots Engagement

The governor emphasized that 2Baba’s wealth of experience in the entertainment industry and his longstanding influence among Nigeria’s youth positioned him as a valuable asset in bridging the gap between governance, creativity, and community engagement.

“Once you say ‘2Face,’ people start dancing—even without you singing,” Governor Alia remarked. “You are a guru of entertainment, and given your influence, we believe you can help us impact more lives positively.”

He continued: “On behalf of the government and the good people of Benue, I want to give you more responsibility. We believe you have the capacity to help us chart a way forward—especially when it comes to improving lives through entertainment and outreach.”

2Baba, a native of Okpokwu Local Government Area in Benue South, is no stranger to advocacy and philanthropy. Through the 2Baba Foundation, he has championed causes ranging from voter education to peacebuilding and youth development. His appointment formalizes his contributions to the state and opens a new chapter of public service.

A Homecoming Marked by Tradition and Celebration

The visit to the Government House came on the heels of a significant personal milestone for the music legend. Just days earlier, on April 21, 2025, 2Baba introduced his fiancée, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, to his native Idoma community during the Idoma Nation Peace and Unity Symposium held at the Och’Idoma Palace in Otukpo.

Hon. Osawaru, a legislator representing a constituency in Edo State, was warmly received by traditional leaders, including Och’Idoma V and other local dignitaries. Dressed in resplendent traditional attire, 2Baba presented his bride-to-be in a ceremony that blended cultural reverence with public celebration.

Following the royal introduction, the couple proceeded to Okpokwu, where they met with community elders and family members. There, 2Baba reaffirmed his roots and sought blessings for his forthcoming union, further reinforcing his commitment to the cultural values of his people.

Bridging Influence and Impact

This dual role—artist and adviser, public figure and private citizen—has become a hallmark of 2Baba’s career. With his new advisory position, he is expected to play a key role in designing programs that leverage entertainment for youth empowerment, cultural promotion, and community development in Benue State.

For many observers, the appointment is symbolic of a broader shift in Nigerian governance—one that increasingly recognizes the potential of creative industries and their stars to contribute meaningfully to public life beyond the stage.

As Benue navigates its post-pandemic recovery and charts a path toward social development, 2Baba’s new role could offer a model for integrating celebrity influence into grassroots transformation.
