Kenya Airways has revealed that it transported more than 10,000 passengers from Nigeria between 2023 and 2024, with Nigerians emerging as some of its top frequent flyers. The airline emphasized the significance of the Nigerian market to both its operations and the Kenyan government.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Ngamau Stephen, Regional Manager for America and West Africa at Kenya Airways, announced that the airline has increased its flight frequency to Lagos from seven to 10 weekly flights in 2024. This represents a 21% capacity increase, offering greater flexibility and convenience for passengers and underscoring the airline’s commitment to the Nigerian market.

Enhanced Frequent Flyer Program

Stephen also highlighted the launch of ‘Asante,’ Kenya Airways’ new and improved frequent flyer program, designed to reward loyal customers. Nigeria was among the first markets to experience the rollout of this initiative, which aims to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Partnership Opportunities and Government Support

The regional manager expressed Kenya Airways’ openness to partnering with local Nigerian carriers to improve domestic and regional connectivity. Such collaborations would provide more travel options for passengers within Nigeria and beyond, strengthening the airline’s presence in the region.

Stephen commended the Nigerian government for clearing trapped airline funds, creating a more favorable environment for airlines to operate. He also praised the Kenyan government for its progressive visa waiver policy, which now includes Nigeria and most other African countries, facilitating easier travel and promoting tourism.

Tourism and Expansion Initiatives

To further boost tourism and leisure travel, Kenya Airways is introducing attractive stopover packages in Nairobi. These packages will allow passengers to explore Kenya’s rich culture, wildlife, and scenic landscapes during transit, enhancing their overall travel experience.

Additionally, Stephen announced the introduction of London Gatwick as Kenya Airways’ second gateway to the United Kingdom. This expansion complements the airline’s existing operations at London Heathrow, providing passengers with more options for travel between Africa and the UK.

Kenya Airways’ increased focus on the Nigerian market, coupled with its strategic initiatives, reflects its commitment to enhancing connectivity, customer experience, and regional integration. As the airline continues to expand its operations, it aims to solidify its position as a leading carrier in Africa and beyond.
