“Over the coming months, we’re upgrading more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini. Later this year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads on mobile app stores,” the company stated.
A Gradual Transition
The shift to Gemini has already begun, with millions of users transitioning to the new AI-driven assistant. Google highlighted positive feedback about Gemini’s capabilities, which include enhanced productivity, creativity, and curiosity.
“We believe an assistant should be personal to you, aware of the world around you, and able to interact with the apps and services you already use. It should make you more productive, more creative, and a bit more curious,” Google explained.
The transition will start with mobile users and eventually expand to other devices, including tablets, cars, headphones, smartwatches, and other connected devices.
Expanding to Home Devices
Google also plans to introduce a new AI-powered experience for home devices such as smart speakers, displays, and TVs. While details remain under wraps, the company confirmed that Google Assistant will continue to operate on these devices until the Gemini-powered experience is fully rolled out.
“We’re bringing a new experience, powered by Gemini, to home devices like speakers, displays, and TVs. We look forward to sharing more details in the next few months,” Google stated.
A New Era of AI Assistants
The move to Gemini marks a significant step in Google’s efforts to leverage generative AI for more intuitive and personalized user experiences. As the tech giant continues to innovate, Gemini is poised to become the cornerstone of its AI-driven ecosystem, offering users a smarter, more connected way to interact with technology.
