The Story of Demon Slayer
Set in feudal Japan, Demon Slayer follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who becomes a demon slayer after his family is brutally murdered by demons. The sole survivor of the attack, his sister Nezuko, is transformed into a demon but retains her human emotions. Together, Tanjiro and Nezuko embark on a perilous quest to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of demons, in hopes of turning Nezuko back into a human and ending Muzan’s reign of terror.
The Success of the Demon Slayer Franchise
Infinity Castle will be the fourth film in the Demon Slayer franchise. The first movie, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train (2020), played a pivotal role in catapulting the series to global fame. With a production budget of $15 million, Mugen Train grossed an astounding $507.1 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time and surpassing the record previously held by the Oscar-winning Spirited Away (2001).
While the subsequent films, To the Swordsmith Village (2023) and To the Hashira Training (2024), received positive reviews, they did not replicate the record-breaking success of Mugen Train. Nevertheless, the franchise has maintained a massive and dedicated fanbase, eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Tanjiro and Nezuko’s journey.
