Belgium’s most successful football club, Anderlecht, has made a significant managerial change, dismissing head coach David Hubert and appointing Besnik Hasi as interim manager until the end of the season.

The decision, announced on Thursday, comes as the Belgian league enters its playoff phase. Anderlecht finished the regular season in fourth place, a position that has prompted the club to seek a fresh approach in their pursuit of success.

Hasi, 53, is no stranger to Anderlecht, having previously managed the team to a league title in 2014. A former player for the Brussels-based club, Hasi brings a wealth of experience, having also coached teams in Poland, Greece, and Saudi Arabia.

In a statement following his appointment, Hasi expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the club. “I know this club and the expectations that come with it,” he said. “It is a pleasure to once again lead the first team.”

Anderlecht, which holds a record 34 Belgian league titles, last won the championship in 2017. The club’s recent struggles to reclaim its dominance in Belgian football have led to increased pressure for results, particularly during the critical playoff phase of the season.

Hasi’s immediate task will be to galvanize the squad and improve their performance as they compete for a higher finish in the league. His familiarity with the club’s culture and his previous success as a manager make him a fitting choice to steer Anderlecht through this transitional period.

Fans will be hopeful that Hasi’s return can reignite the club’s winning spirit and help Anderlecht reclaim its place at the pinnacle of Belgian football.
