In the wake of a thorough evaluation of the 2024 UTME, JAMB pinpointed critical areas needing immediate improvement to boost efficiency, transparency, and reliability. This evaluation focused on essential elements such as the generation of examination items, the registration process, the accreditation of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, and the overall management of examination results.
A significant measure implemented by JAMB is the creation of a robust pool of examination items tailored to the CBT format's requirements. This initiative aims to ensure that the examination system can accommodate the anticipated high number of candidates without experiencing delays or technical issues.
Furthermore, JAMB has finalized the accreditation of examination centers nationwide, confirming that each center adheres to the necessary standards for CBT exams. These centers have been assessed for their technological capabilities, capacity, and commitment to maintaining examination integrity.
The Board has also rolled out improved registration protocols to eliminate obstacles and deter fraudulent activities during the registration phase. Candidates are now instructed to establish their JAMB profiles by sending a text message formatted as: NIN (space) followed by their 11-digit NIN number to 55019. This pre-registration requirement ensures candidates are well-prepared and minimizes delays when the registration portal officially opens.
JAMB has released a stringent advisory regarding biometric verification, specifically concerning the use of henna, also referred to as “Laali” or “Lale.” The board has highlighted that applying henna to candidates' fingers may hinder the biometric verification process, which is essential for both registration and entry into examinations.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to keep all ten fingers free from any substances or chemicals that could interfere with fingerprint scanning.
To bolster transparency and accountability, comprehensive monitoring systems have been implemented to identify and rectify irregularities in real-time during both the registration and examination stages. These systems aim to reduce the likelihood of technical failures and fraudulent activities.
JAMB is confident that these innovations and preventive strategies will establish a new standard for examination management in Nigeria.
The Board anticipates that candidates participating in the 2025 UTME will benefit from a more efficient, transparent examination process that is devoid of technical issues.
As the registration period nears, JAMB has urged all prospective candidates to strictly follow the provided guidelines and complete their registration profiles promptly. With these initiatives in place, the 2025 UTME is expected to exceed previous editions in terms of efficiency and reliability.
JAMB remains dedicated to its mission of ensuring fairness, transparency, and integrity in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
