United Bank for Africa (UBA) plans to open a branch in Saudi Arabia to expand its global reach. Group Managing Director Oliver Alawuba made this announcement at a Wednesday evening farewell dinner in Abuja for retiring non-executive directors.

Mr. Alawuba stated that the bank intends to expand its operations across the African continent in the coming year. He noted UBA's current workforce of over 25,000 employees serving more than 45 million customers in 24 countries.

He further announced plans for UBA's market entry into Saudi Arabia next year, following a recent chairman's visit, and confirmed the establishment of additional African subsidiaries to support continued growth and success.

He emphasized the legacy of UBA, highlighting its extensive workforce and customer base, and assured that the institution is committed to sustainability. Mr. Alawuba acknowledged the collective effort behind the bank's achievements and expressed his gratitude to the retirees for their invaluable contributions.

In his address, Chairman Tony Elumelu commended the retired directors and their families for their steadfast commitment and sacrifices. UBA, he stated, is more than a bank; it is a family, and these individuals have demonstrated exceptional dedication, significantly contributing to the institution's success across Nigeria, Africa, and globally. The Chairman expressed profound gratitude to their families for their unwavering support.

Retiree Kayode Fashola reflected on his journey with UBA and expressed his gratitude to Elumelu for placing his trust in him for significant roles, despite their initial unfamiliarity.

He emphasized that collaborating with Elumelu requires a strong commitment, dedication, and the necessary skills. Loyalty is also essential. Elumelu tends to place significant trust in individuals he has not previously known. Despite being a stranger to him, I was appointed as the Chairman of the General Purpose Committee, a position I held for four years without any interference from him during that time.

The retired directors included Mrs. Onari Duke, Dr. Kayode Fasola, Mrs. Foluke Abdulrazaq, and Ambassador Joe Keshi.
