Egypt is at the forefront of the continent's tourism resurgence, welcoming 14.91 million visitors, closely followed by Morocco with 14.52 million. Tunisia also contributes to North Africa's robust performance, recording 9.37 million arrivals.
In sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa remains the most popular destination, drawing 8.54 million tourists, while Tanzania attracted 1.81 million visitors, thanks to its renowned wildlife and natural wonders.
Indian Ocean destinations have also shown strong results, with Mauritius receiving 1.30 million arrivals. Ethiopia's rich cultural heritage attracted 1.08 million visitors, while Eswatini and Seychelles welcomed 390,000 and 350,000 visitors, respectively.
This growth corresponds with IATA's recent data, which reveals that African airlines experienced a 10.4% year-on-year increase in Revenue Passenger Kilometres, alongside a 5.3% rise in seat capacity.
The UN World Tourism Barometer reports a 6% increase in arrivals to Africa compared to 2019, surpassing global recovery trends.
Many of these destinations have recently adopted visa-free policies for key source markets, with Egypt now providing visa-free access to 112 countries and Morocco allowing visitors from 67 nations to enter without visas, representing a significant move towards enhancing accessibility for travelers to Africa.
