Mikel Arteta acknowledges that Arsenal is lacking one key player following the draw against Fulham.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed that his team is feeling the absence of Gabriel Magalhaes following a 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday. The Brazilian defender was not included in the matchday squad due to a knee injury, which also kept him out of Arsenal’s midweek win over Manchester United.

The defensive situation was further complicated by the unavailability of Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, limiting Arteta's options in defense.

During the post-match press conference, when questioned about the effect of Gabriel's absence, Arteta provided a direct response.

He confirmed the impact, while simultaneously praising the adaptability demonstrated by his makeshift defensive unit. He specifically commended Kiwior's performance, noting the necessity of a complete defensive reorganization.

He highlighted Timber's performance at left-back, a position unfamiliar to him, and Partey's contribution as a full-back. Jorginho's excellent performance was also acknowledged. The team's successful adaptation to the absences was a source of considerable satisfaction for Arteta.

When questioned about the possible return of Gabriel, Zinchenko, and Calafiori for the upcoming Champions League match against Monaco, Manager Arteta expressed cautious optimism.

He stated, "While hopeful, the ultimate determination rests with the medical team's evaluation of player fitness." He acknowledged the team's defensive personnel shortages, but highlighted the consistently commendable attitude and performance demonstrated by all players selected.

Arsenal's frustration intensified due to VAR's overturning of Bukayo Saka's 89th-minute goal, citing Gabriel Martinelli's offside position in the preceding play.

Arteta commented on the emotional toll, stating, "The elation of a hard-fought victory was abruptly reversed, creating a significant challenge." He further expressed disappointment at the overturned result, asserting Arsenal's deserved win from the opening whistle.
