Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele is raising her voice against the escalating issue of piracy in the Nigerian film industry, which she believes is jeopardizing the hard work and financial investments made in the field.

As her eagerly awaited film ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ prepares for its cinema release on December 13th, Akindele took to social media to encourage her followers to support the industry by refraining from participating in piracy.

She highlighted the specific issue of recording films in cinemas, which she considers a detrimental form of piracy that harms the industry’s growth.

“I dedicated immense effort and resources to this project. Piracy is devastating our industry!” Akindele expressed fervently to her audience. “Please refrain from recording videos in cinemas. It constitutes piracy! I implore you, do not endorse it. Substantial resources have been, and continue to be, invested in Everybody Loves Jenifa.”

The actress also issued a stern warning, asserting that individuals caught filming or engaging in piracy will face legal repercussions. “Anyone caught filming will be arrested,” she stated emphatically.
