United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, a leading pan-African financial institution, has announce the appointment of Ms. Henrietta Ugboh as an Independent Non-Executive Director to its Group Board. This appointment follows the retirement of Mr. Owanari Duke from the Board.

The appointment of Ms. Ugboh has been duly approved by all relevant regulatory authorities, including the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Tony Elumelu, CFR, UBA’s Group Chairman, remarked on the appointment, stating, “Henrietta Ugboh brings a proven record of professional achievement, integrity, and leadership, which will enhance the UBA Group Board and reaffirm the Group’s dedication to strong corporate governance.”

Ugboh possesses a degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, an MBA from ESUT Business School, and is an alumnus of the Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School. With over 30 years of banking experience at Citibank, she is also an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA).

Elumelu further noted that with her extensive experience and expertise in areas such as commercial banking, credit, and risk management, the UBA Board is pleased to welcome Mrs. Ugboh. “We anticipate her valuable contributions to the Group as we continue to implement our distinctive growth strategy across Africa and beyond.”

Additionally, the Board announced the retirement of Mrs. Owanari Duke, an Independent Non-Executive Director who has been part of the UBA Group Board since October 2012.

Throughout her tenure, Mrs. Duke demonstrated exceptional leadership, participating in various Committees of the Bank, including the Board Governance Committee, Board Audit, Governance, Nomination & Remuneration Committee, Board Credit Committee, Finance & General Purpose Committee, and Statutory Audit Committee.
