Sony Music West Africa (SMWA) has officially welcomed gospel artist and worship minister Onos Ariyo as its inaugural gospel signing. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Sony Music offices in Lagos on Saturday, November 23, 2024. 

The event gathered representatives from various media organizations, key members of the Sony Music West Africa team, and Onos's management, marking a significant step in the label's commitment to promoting a wide range of musical genres and talents. 

Oluwaseun “Banko” Lloyd, General Manager of Sony Music West Africa, opened the event with an inspiring speech, highlighting the timely nature of this partnership. He emphasized the alignment between Onos’s impactful music ministry and Sony Music’s mission to elevate African talent on a global platform. 

“This alliance holds immense promise for success, and we are excited to embark on this journey with Onos,” he said.

An enthusiastic Onos Ariyo shared her appreciation and excitement about being the first gospel artist to join Sony Music West Africa. “This is a humbling and historic moment for both myself and the gospel music community,” she remarked. 

“Sharing the message of Jesus through music has always been my passion, and I am thankful for the journey God has guided me on since my debut single in 2009. With this partnership, I anticipate even greater achievements ahead.”

With a music career that spans over a decade and includes her critically acclaimed song “Alagbara,” Onos Ariyo has released five studio albums and one EP. 

She now joins a prestigious roster of renowned music ministers signed to Sony Music labels, including Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Kierra Sheard, Mali Music, and Koryn Hawthorne. Her music ministry has inspired and impacted lives worldwide, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most esteemed gospel artists.

The collaboration between Sony Music West Africa and Onos Ariyo marks a significant development in the gospel music sector, as both entities strive to enhance her ministry and connect with new audiences globally. 

Onoriode Ebiere Ariyo, known professionally as Onos Ariyo, is a celebrated Nigerian gospel artist, songwriter, and worship leader, recognized for her powerful music and moving lyrics. 

She gained significant acclaim for her hit song “Alagbara,” which was both written and produced by the renowned Nigerian producer, Wilson Joel. Her ministry has made a profound impact worldwide, earning her recognition as one of the Global Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent in September 2018.

Hailing from Delta State in Southern Nigeria, Onos completed her primary and secondary education before attending Delta State University, Abraka, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in French. 

Her musical journey began in her youth, participating in choirs and musical groups during her primary school years. This passion flourished, leading her to Lagos in 2004, where she recorded her debut single, “Dance,” produced by FLO.

Throughout her career, Onos has emerged as a prominent figure in the gospel music landscape, delivering inspiring performances and releasing a variety of projects that resonate with audiences around the world. She continues to uplift and inspire through her music, which serves as a source of faith and hope.
