U.S. semiconductor company Nvidia intends to make investments in various cities across Indonesia, including the establishment of a school dedicated to artificial intelligence in Central Java province, as announced by the country's vice president on Thursday.

Gibran Rakabuming Raka mentioned that these investment plans were shared by Nvidia's CEO during a visit to Indonesia the previous week. However, Gibran did not elaborate on the specifics of the plans.

Recently, the Indonesian Government has turned its attention to artificial intelligence (AI), highlighted by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's proposal to incorporate AI into school curriculums.

At a coordination meeting held on November 11, 2024, to assess primary and secondary education policies, Gibran urged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to advance the inclusion of AI and coding as subjects in elementary and junior high schools.

He emphasized that these subjects are essential for developing quality human resources equipped with the necessary technological skills to keep pace with ongoing technological advancements.

"We need golden generations to achieve the Golden Indonesia (vision). We want more coding experts, AI experts, machine learning experts, and others," he highlighted at the meeting.

On November 14, during the Indonesia AI Day event, Gibran delivered a written statement highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in safeguarding the nation's cultural heritage.

"We want to make technology not only a tool to achieve growth, but also a means to secure and preserve Indonesia's identity and rich cultural values as a nation that upholds Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)," he said.

He underscored the necessity of equipping human resources to effectively develop, manage, and leverage technology. Gibran reiterated the government's dedication to enhancing human resource readiness and fostering an environment that empowers the younger generation to innovate, adapt, and shape technological advancements.

The Indonesian Government has expressed openness to investment from international IT firms, including Nvidia, to bolster the AI ecosystem in the country. The potential for AI technology development is recognized as significant and vital for advancing Indonesia's digital landscape.

The Indonesia AI Day 2024 event, hosted by telecommunications company Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), showcased key players in the technology sector with a focus on AI. Notably, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was present among other industry leaders.

In collaboration with Indosat, Nvidia is establishing an AI development center at Solo Techno Park in Central Java, backed by a USD200 million investment.

In February 2023, the government re-inaugurated Solo Techno Park as a creative public space equipped with various technological development facilities.

This area is anticipated to evolve into a technology hub for research and innovation in technology development.
