Nikon Incorporated unveiled its Z6 III camera in Lagos, reaffirming its dedication to the African market.
In an official statement, Nikon characterized the Z6 III as the "optimal hybrid camera," seamlessly integrating exceptional performance with versatile capabilities, specifically tailored to meet the demands of professional photographers and videographers.
During the launch event, Akshay Talwar, the Head of Sales and Strategy for the Middle East and Africa, highlighted Nigeria's significance as a key market within Africa.
“The African continent holds great importance for us,” Talwar remarked. “Nigeria ranks among our top three markets, contributing significantly not only in business but also in creative expression.”
Talwar disclosed that Nikon had provided the Z6 III cameras to three Nigerian creators prior to the launch for feature testing.
He noted that the quality of the content produced by these creators validated the camera’s exceptional capabilities.
“We were thrilled to witness the high caliber of work they delivered. It was truly world-class,” Talwar expressed.
He further mentioned that Nikon is seeking to expand collaborations with Nigerian creatives on local initiatives, allowing them to present their work on a broader, international stage.
“In the future, we aim to partner with these creators on specific projects, collaborating to produce content in Nigeria for a Nigerian audience,” he stated.
Richard Eko, Nikon's consultant in Nigeria, commented on the “disruptive” impact of the Z6 III in the market, emphasizing that the camera fulfills the needs of both photographers and videographers.
“The camera launched today is comprehensive, particularly excelling in video capabilities,” Eko asserted, adding that Nikon is developing a financing system to facilitate camera purchases over time for photographers.
An international photographer, Yobel Muchang, characterized the Z6 III as an adaptable instrument for content creators, stating, “For those in content creation, this camera provides a comprehensive solution that is designed to endure for ten years and leverage Nikon’s strong system.”
The Z6III stands out as the first full-frame mirrorless camera globally to feature a partially-stacked CMOS sensor, which incorporates multiple high-speed processing circuits positioned both above and below the image sensor. This innovative sensor design, combined with the EXPEED 7 high-speed image-processing engine—also utilized in the Z9 and Z8—facilitates Pre-Release Capture, allowing for up to 1 second of recording prior to fully pressing the shutter-release button, achieving a maximum speed of 120 fps (C120).
At 60 fps (C60), it can capture full-frame images with approximately 24 megapixels, surpassing the pixel count capabilities of the Z9 and Z8. Furthermore, the EVF display significantly reduces frame skipping, providing a smoother visual experience and making it easier to track subjects during continuous high-speed shooting at 20 fps. This feature is particularly beneficial for capturing critical moments, such as wildlife in motion or birds in flight.
The integration of a new CMOS sensor with high-speed readout capabilities enables internal recording of 12-bit 6K N-RAW and ProRes RAW HQ, along with 10-bit 5.4K ProRes 422 and H.265 formats. This advancement facilitates versatile recording options for 4K video production. When producing 4K content or the increasingly favored vertical Full HD videos for mobile devices, users can easily trim, zoom, track, and stabilize their footage, thereby enhancing their editing possibilities.
Furthermore, 4K UHD high-definition video can be generated through oversampling from 6K. The compact Z6III is designed with an effective heat dissipation system, which reduces power consumption during video recording and allows for 4K UHD/60p recording for up to 125 minutes. With its exceptional video performance and features, the Z6III provides greater flexibility in video production, including support for 10-bit Full HD/240p H.265 video recording, enabling the creation of impressive 10x slow-motion footage.
