During the 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the National Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), which concluded in Lagos on Thursday night, Shell companies in Nigeria and their personnel were recognized for their significant contributions.

In a statement, Shell was acknowledged as the Best Overall Exhibitor and was also recognized as the Best Exhibiting Energy Company (International). Additionally, Geophysicist Somime Oguntola received the Award of Excellence for Oral Paper (second place), and Shell employee Johnbosco Uche was appointed as the new President of NAPE.

Since its inception in 1975, Shell companies in Nigeria have been a steadfast supporter of NAPE, leveraging the expertise of their extensive workforce to enhance various initiatives, particularly in education and mentoring.

As a key sponsor of the 2024 conference, Shell showcased a prominent exhibition that included career counseling, discussions on Nigerian Content and Contractor development, and panel sessions focused on Women in Industry and the Sustainability Energy Challenge.

A notable feature was the Shell medical stand, which provided services to over 500 conference attendees and members of the public during the four-day event. Medical professionals offered a variety of services, including laboratory tests, deworming, medical consultations, ophthalmology checks, and distributed nearly 300 pairs of eyeglasses.

During the dinner, Ronald Adams, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), reaffirmed Shell's commitment to tackling “the Nigerian energy trilemma by advancing energy security in a sustainable way.” He highlighted SNEPCo's operations as a testament to Shell’s role in enhancing energy security in Nigeria.

Due to the ongoing production at Bonga, we have allocated resources to support development initiatives, foster a new cadre of Nigerian Deepwater experts, empower local contractors and service providers, and execute social investments that have positively impacted communities across all six geopolitical zones of the nation, he stated.

Mr. Adams further remarked: "SNEPCo, along with Shell, is dedicated to a long-term presence in Nigeria. Our commitment is evident in our existing operations and future growth strategies, all of which are based on the principles of safety, cost-effectiveness, and competitive excellence."
