Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have been suspended following their contentious matchup in Texas on Friday night.

The two fighters faced off in eight largely uneventful rounds at AT&T Stadium, culminating in a unanimous decision victory for the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

However, following the event, both athletes are now required to take a break, not due to their conduct in front of a live audience or the millions watching on Netflix globally.

This suspension is mandated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which requires fighters to observe a rest period after their bouts to prioritize their safety.

In most combat sports, athletes must refrain from competing for at least seven days.

Additionally, the rules stipulate that an extra three days are added to the suspension for each additional round fought. Tyson or Paul would have faced a 60-day suspension had a knockout occurred.

According to the regulations, "Medical disqualification of a contestant is for their own safety and may be made at the recommendation of the examining physician or TDLR [Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation]."

A contestant who contests a medical disqualification, medical suspension, or rest period determined by a ringside physician, or a disqualification or suspension imposed by the department, may request a hearing to demonstrate their fitness.

This may clarify why Paul did not deliver a significant strike against his opponent, who is 31 years his senior, even when he appeared to be in a dominant position during the match.

Tyson, 58, struggled to keep up with Paul's energy, and his performance deteriorated over the course of the eight-round match. Following the fight, the YouTuber made headlines by stating that he chose not to knock out the former heavyweight champion.

In the final moments of the bout, Paul even took a step back and bowed to Tyson, demonstrating respect for a boxing legend while intentionally easing off his aggression.

When questioned about whether he slowed down after noticing Tyson's fatigue, Paul responded, "Yeah, definitely. I wanted to entertain the fans, but I didn't want to hurt someone who didn't need to be hurt."

Logan, Jake's brother, commented on Tyson's performance in an interview with Mail Sport, saying, "I think Jake let him live." He added, "Tyson is tough; I'm proud of him for enduring the challenge against a young fighter like Jake Paul."

The lackluster event received some boos at its conclusion, and many viewers online expressed disappointment at witnessing the veteran's struggle.

Tyson was active for only 16 minutes on Friday, but for those watching him move slowly around the ring with a knee brace, it felt much longer. At one point, the phrase "he's 58" began trending on X, highlighting Iron Mike's age.

KSI, who faced Logan Paul in 2019 and had predicted that the match would not be competitive, referred to the event as "elderly abuse."

"What a sad watch," he posted on Instagram. "This whole thing was disheartening. Mike Tyson is twice Jake Paul's age. It was never going to be a close fight. I can't believe this elderly abuse was even allowed. It's just appalling."

This marked Tyson's first professional fight in nearly two decades, and it was evident as he struggled to match the pace of his significantly younger opponent.

The statistics underscored the reality: Tyson landed only 18 of 97 punches, with a mere four of those hitting Paul's body.
