Prominent Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan and his younger brother, Aremu Afolayan, have officially mended their relationship after years of both public and private disagreements. The reconciliation took place during the wake-keeping ceremony for their late mother in Oyo State on Friday, November 22, 2024.

The brothers, who are both sons of the late Nigerian film icon Ade Love, had been embroiled in a notable feud that first came to light in 2018 when Aremu claimed in an interview that their father had lived in poverty despite his success. Kunle's response was swift and harsh, branding Aremu as “stupid” in a public confrontation, which only exacerbated their estrangement.

However, the poignant occasion honoring their mother served as a catalyst for healing. During the event, Kunle addressed the attendees, expressing his role as a father figure to Aremu, given their ten-year age difference.

“One thing I want to tell all Aremu’s friends is that I am not his brother but his father,” Kunle said. “I trained him, and I’m 10 years older than him. But love conquers all.”

In response, Aremu extended an apology to Kunle, acknowledging his errors and expressing appreciation for the prayers and reconciliation efforts of their late mother.

“My greatest joy today is that my mother made us talk,” Aremu said. “I’m sorry for putting brother Kunle through the Instagram backlash. It’s because I love you.”
