The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has prohibited licensed flight crew members from working for multiple airlines simultaneously.

In a circular issued on November 6, 2024, and signed by the acting Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, it was noted that surveillance reports indicated that flight crew members were misusing their simulator privileges and proficiency checks to operate for more than one airline.

Najomo emphasized that those who violate this directive will face consequences starting November 11, 2024 (Monday).

The statement highlighted: “The authority has observed through our surveillance reports that licensed flight crew members are leveraging their simulator privileges and proficiency checks to work for multiple airlines.

“The Flight Simulator Training Device/facility approved by the Authority is specific to each operator, based on their training programs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Instances where pilots operate for more than one airline concurrently, without considering the safety implications, pose a significant risk to the aviation industry.

“Effective immediately, all operators and pilot license holders are hereby informed that such actions will be regarded as violations of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations. The Authority will implement appropriate enforcement measures against those who breach this directive, starting November 11, 2024. Furthermore, simulator renewals will now be linked to the specific operator.”
