The government encourages internationally trained physicians to remain in Nigeria and contribute to the revitalization of the country's healthcare system.
The Federal Government has urged newly inducted foreign-trained medical and dental professionals to resist the temptation of seeking better opportunities abroad and instead dedicate themselves to the enhancement of Nigeria’s healthcare system.
During the induction ceremony for 622 foreign-trained doctors and dentists, organized by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, represented by Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollom, highlighted the essential contribution of healthcare professionals to national progress.
In addressing the issues of workforce migration and the current state of the healthcare system, the Minister encouraged the new inductees to maintain high ethical standards, demonstrate compassion, and adopt innovative approaches to address the changing needs of society.
Prof. Afolabi Lesi, Chairman of the MDCN, supported the Minister’s message, urging the practitioners to remain in Nigeria and engage actively in meeting the healthcare demands of underserved populations.
Additionally, MDCN Registrar Fatima Kyari emphasized the importance of professionalism and accountability, outlining the council’s stringent measures against any form of misconduct.
The event reflected the government’s vision for a healthcare system characterized by equity, quality, and accessibility, calling on the new practitioners to take on a pivotal role in transforming the future of healthcare in Nigeria.
