Ibrahim Buhari, a former tough centre-back for Plateau United, has expressed his willingness to assist the Super Eagles as they strive to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The national team is currently facing challenges, having earned only three points from four matches in the CAF Group C qualification, placing them fifth in a six-team group. Only the top team will automatically qualify for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

The competition for the World Cup ticket will resume in March, with the Super Eagles set to play away against Rwanda before hosting Zimbabwe. Buhari, who currently plays for Elfsborg FC in the Swedish professional league, believes he can significantly contribute to the Nigeria Senior Men’s National Team's efforts.

Since moving to Sweden in 2022 on a four-year contract with Elfsborg, Buhari has been performing exceptionally well this season. He recently participated in the Europa League Matchday 8 against Galatasaray, the Turkish team featuring Victor Osimhen.

“My game has improved tremendously since I came to Europe and I’m so grateful to my agent, Moses Adams who made it all possible, “the sturdy defender said . “He discovered me in the Nigerian domestic league and promptly brought me to Europe.

“That was the kind of opportunity I have been praying and I believe the sky is my limit.

“But my major target is to get a place in the Super Eagles in order to serve my father’ s land and without any doubt, I’m ready to contribute my quota towards the success of the Super Eagles,” he stated.

Buhari is recognized as a robust and agile centre-back, possessing excellent passing abilities. He is also considered a valuable asset during set pieces, demonstrating a keen understanding of the game.

However, it is yet to be determined when the national team selectors will provide him the opportunity to contribute to his country.
