Afrobeats artist Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, is experiencing remarkable global success as she joins the renowned band Coldplay on their Australian tour.

As part of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres 2024 World Tour, the celebrated group will perform at 11 venues across Australia and New Zealand. Ayra Starr will serve as the opening act, sharing the stage with Zimbabwean artist Shone and Australian X Factor alum Emmanuel Kelly.

During the recent concert at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Ayra Starr captivated the audience with her performances of popular tracks such as ‘Rush’ and selections from her latest album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’.

The acclaimed Nigerian singer is making significant waves internationally, establishing herself as one of Africa’s leading music ambassadors.

Ayra Starr is also featured on Coldplay’s newest album, ‘Moon Music’, contributing to the track ‘Good Feeling’. This collaboration marks her as the fourth female artist to work with Coldplay, following notable partnerships with Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Selena Gomez throughout the band's nearly three-decade history.

Having recently released her album ‘The Year I Turned 21’, Ayra Starr gained widespread attention after her breakout single ‘Bloody Samaritan’ went viral in 2021.

In the same year, she launched her debut studio album, “19 and Dangerous,” which featured other hit tracks such as “Away,” “Rush,” and “Bloody Samaritan.” The latter was later remixed in collaboration with American artist Kelly Rowland.

With a plethora of awards and recognition, Starr has emerged as one of the fastest-growing artists on the continent.

She was nominated this year for the Grammy Awards alongside other prominent Nigerian music stars.

Her song “Rush” secured her first Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category, making her the youngest Nigerian female artist to achieve this milestone.

Unfortunately, she did not win, as the award went to South African singer Tyla.

Ayra Starr has had an exceptional 2024, with her second album, ‘The Year I Turned 21,’ maintaining her commercial success. The album features notable collaborations with Nigerian artists Asake and Seyi Vibez, as well as American RnB stars Giveon and Coco Jones, and Brazilian sensation Aniita.

Recently, Ayra Starr received nominations for the 2024 MTV EMAs in the categories of Best New Artist and Best Afrobeats, with the awards ceremony set to take place on November 10 in Manchester.
