This initiative was unveiled on the university campus on Friday, in collaboration with industry leaders, including artists, who will provide vocational training to enrolled students, enhancing their academic experience.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulWahab Egbewole (SAN), emphasized that the program is intended to help students acquire specific skills that they can develop during their free time at the university.
Egbewole stated that the prevailing view among graduates from many institutions is that they lack essential skills, highlighting the need for this program to address that gap. He noted that this collaboration enhances the educational experience for students and equips them with the practical skills necessary for today’s rapidly changing industries.
While participation is voluntary, the Vice Chancellor mentioned that certificates would be awarded to students upon completion of the training. He also indicated that students from other institutions would be welcomed to participate, with the entire certification process being conducted online.
He underscored that this initiative demonstrates the university’s dedication to acknowledging and celebrating both the personal and professional accomplishments of its students.
“This is also a crucial element of our mission to realize Vision 1:10:500, a significant move towards establishing ourselves as a world-class university.
Achieving this status requires us to prioritize our students and their success. Their ability to excel during and after their time here depends on acquiring lifelong skills that prepare them not only to graduate with character and knowledge but also to make meaningful contributions to society, which is the ultimate goal of their education.”
The U-INSPIRE Award is vital in preparing our students, as it ensures they possess not only academic degrees but also the necessary practical and interpersonal skills to thrive in a highly competitive global job market, Egbewole emphasized.
The acting Director of the Centre for Research Development and In-house Training, Dr. Abdulkarim Oloyede, highlighted the significance of the programme, noting that it serves as a comprehensive platform for skill acquisition and a valuable opportunity for students.
