The University of Benin has named Professor Edoba Omoregie, a distinguished authority in constitutional law and governance, as its new Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was formally made on Friday in Benin by Professor Shaibu Umaru, the esteemed Chairman of the university's Governing Council.
Umaru revealed that Omoregie was selected as the 11th Vice-Chancellor from a pool of 27 applicants for this esteemed role.
Professor Omoregie, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will succeed the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lillian Salami, whose term concludes on December 1.
Born on April 5, 1969, Professor Omoregie hails from Benin and completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Benin.
He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and was honored with the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2021.
