The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Sonny Echono, urged Local Government Areas to prioritize strategic investments in tertiary education.

He made this statement on Thursday following the receipt of an award of excellence during a three-day annual summit hosted by the Association of Chairmen of Local Government Service Commissions in Nigeria.

The theme of the summit “Addressing Security and Other Contemporary Challenges at the Local Government Areas in Nigeria.”

The Executive Secretary conveyed his gratitude to the association for bestowing upon him the prestigious award. He extended his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for reinstating the autonomy of local governments and reiterated TETFund’s unwavering commitment to supporting the advancement of tertiary education in Nigeria.

“As I told them, to whom much is given, much is expected. Now that Mr. President has taken a bold and courageous step to restore local government autonomy, we expect more resources to flow to that sector.

“Having done that, we expect them to invest in tertiary education, and TETFund will be there to support them.

“With these increased resources, we expect them to come on board and be equal partners with the state and federal government,” he added.

In addition, the Chairman of LGSC, Kamal Bayewu, praised the Executive Secretary for his unwavering dedication to improving tertiary education. He expressed optimism that this recognition will serve as a catalyst for even greater accomplishments.
