She revealed this information in a documentary aired on the TVEI Streaming Network.
The singer has been incarcerated since 2021, facing extensive sentences for multiple sexual offenses.
At 26 years old, Buku Abi expressed that she felt too frightened to disclose her experiences to her mother.
“He was my everything. For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person that he would do something to me,” she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Drea Kelly, Abi's mother, supported her daughter's allegations, stating that the singer should not have harmed their child.
"What he did to me was one thing, but there was no need for him to do it to my children," she expressed. Abi mentioned that she continues to grapple with the trauma from her childhood.
“I really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life and changed who I was as a person and changed the sparkle I had and the light I used to carry. After I told my mom, I didn’t go over there any more.
“My brother [Robert] and sister [Jaah], we didn’t go over there any more. And even up until now, I struggle with it a lot,” she said.
Jennifer Bonjean, the attorney representing R. Kelly, asserted that the singer's ex-wife had previously made the same allegations, which were ultimately proven false.
Bonjean stated that the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services conducted an investigation into these claims and deemed them "unfounded."
She also criticized the documentary producers for not allowing the singer an opportunity to refute what he described as "hurtful claims."
