During this year's World Tourism Day celebration in Lagos, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Bolaji Ogunlende, emphasized the government's commitment to inclusivity in youth development initiatives.
Ogunlende highlighted that the government chose to celebrate World Tourism Day at the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind to inspire hope among individuals with disabilities.
He stated that the government aims to integrate people with disabilities into governance, ensuring that their needs are considered in state development plans.
He remarked, "Our goal in including everyone, particularly those with disabilities, is to instill renewed hope and affirm their place in society as citizens of Lagos and Nigeria."
Mr. Idris Aregbe, Senior Assistant to the Governor on Tourism, echoed the importance of including both able-bodied and disabled individuals in governance.
Aregbe noted that Skal, as a private entity, requires support to effectively assist organizations like the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind, and affirmed the government's ongoing commitment to such initiatives.
Additionally, Mr. Chudi Aligwekwe, Chairman of Skal International, referenced a World Health Organization report indicating that one in six individuals globally lives with a disability, including those who are blind.
