Beyond Limits has published the official post-event report for the second edition of DICE, its ecosystem mixer that took place on April 26, 2024, in Lagos.

The event successfully gathered over 200 stakeholders from the creative industry, including content creators, actors, music executives, media figures, creative entrepreneurs, and influential thought leaders.

Additionally, it attracted a diverse representation from the tech and business sectors, comprising founders, investors, and senior executives.

Focusing on the critical issue of monetization within the creative industry, the event featured engaging panel discussions, brief talks, and dialogues with notable figures from the field.

The detailed insights report (accessible for download at bit.ly/download-dicereport) highlights the significant growth potential of Africa’s creative economy, showcasing remarkable collaborations, international recognition, and innovative work produced by African creatives in the last decade.

It also provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities present in various segments of the creative economy, such as film, fashion, digital content creation, dance, and theatre. The report emphasizes emerging trends that are influencing future developments and includes expert advice from leading content creators like Winifred Nwania on maximizing the industry's potential.

A dedicated section of the report featuring the Honourable Minister for Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, discusses the importance of policy and collaboration in fostering growth within the creative industry and how stakeholders can work together to unlock the revenue potential of Africa’s creative sector.

The report also examines the influence of technology on the swiftly expanding industry, referencing insights from Tomiwa Aladekomo, CEO of Big Cabal Media, and its potential to enhance monetization opportunities for creatives. Prominent industry figures, including Tega Oghenejobo, Chief Operating Officer at Mavin Records; Kola Oyeneyin, CEO of Opportunik Global Fund; and Addy Awofisayo, Head of Music for sub-Saharan Africa at YouTube, highlight several critical challenges facing the creative sector, such as access to capital, entry into global markets, income disparities, and effective operational practices.

DICE was established as a platform to promote networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among ecosystem participants, and the success of its second edition indicates it is fulfilling this mission effectively.

Dr. Juliet Ehimuan, founder of Beyond Limits, expressed her views on the significance of the report, stating: “Africa is gaining recognition on the global stage, and this is an exhilarating time. Nevertheless, the creative industry currently accounts for only 2.5% of GDP. There is substantial potential for growth. How can we facilitate greater commercial success in the creative sector? How can businesses utilize creative content to enhance their brands? What role does technology play in this? These are the questions we aimed to address in this report.”

The discussions at DICE 2.0 outlined essential strategies for promoting collective advancement within Africa’s creative and startup ecosystems. This report not only encapsulates the key insights from various discussions but also provides actionable recommendations for creatives, investors, policymakers, ecosystem advocates, and other stakeholders.
