The University of Ilorin has established a partnership with the North-China University of Water Resources and Electric Power located in Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

According to an official bulletin from UNILORIN released on Monday, the agreement was formalized on Thursday, September 5, 2024, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at creating academic connections and enhancing educational collaboration between the two institutions.

This initiative is designed to provide mutual benefits by fostering academic cooperation across various disciplines, including education, research, and cultural exchange.

The signing of the MoU was conducted by Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, and his counterpart from the North-China University of Water Resources and Electric Power during the First Exchange Mechanism Conference of the China-Africa Consortium of Universities and the China-Africa Higher Education Dialogue.

This conference, co-hosted by the China Association of Higher Education and the Association of African Universities, was held at the Beijing International Conference Centre from September 5 to 7, 2024.

The University of Ilorin is among 100 African universities selected to engage in this program, which aims to strengthen educational relationships and facilitate knowledge exchange between African and Chinese institutions.

The collaboration is expected to result in joint research initiatives, exchanges of students and staff, and various academic activities that will benefit both universities.

During the MoU signing ceremony, Egbewole conveyed his enthusiasm for the partnership and highlighted the significance of cross-cultural academic exchanges in our increasingly globalized society. 

He acknowledged the opportunity for both institutions to leverage their research and educational strengths to address global issues, particularly in the areas of water resources and electric power. The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed UNILORIN’s dedication to maintaining and honoring this relationship in a respectful manner.
