Samsung has temporarily halted the deployment of One UI 6.1.1, a significant software update that introduces AI capabilities to a wide range of devices, due to reports of camera issues affecting the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

It has come to our attention that several Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra users have encountered an issue with the recent software update. Specifically, users have reported that when magnifying zoomed-in pictures between 16x and 19.9x, the images appear blurry. This matter has been brought to our attention via Samsung’s Community forums.

One Galaxy S23 Ultra user reported that when using the camera, zooming between 17x and 20x results in blurred photographs. They described this issue as unacceptable and urged for a prompt resolution via a hot fix. Another user echoed this concern, stating that while all other zoom levels function properly, the 17x zoom specifically produces unsatisfactory results. They emphasized the need for an urgent fix to address this problem.

The Issue arose following the recent One UI 6.1.1 update, which commenced its rollout this week. It appears to be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, as other Galaxy devices, including the base Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, seem unaffected. SamMobile discovered that the bug manifests between 16x and 19.9x zoom, but not at 20x zoom.

Samsung acknowledged the problem yesterday in a Community forum thread and confirmed that they are actively working on a solution. As an interim measure, Samsung has temporarily halted the rollout of One UI 6.1.1 to Galaxy S23 Ultra devices, as reported by SamMobile.

The exact cause of the bug remains uncertain, but it is worth noting that the Galaxy S23 Ultra features a distinct array of camera sensors compared to the S23 and S23 Plus, which may be a contributing factor. Until Samsung releases a permanent fix, one affected user has identified a temporary workaround.

In the camera app’s settings menu, select “intelligent optimization” and change the quality setting from “maximum” to “medium.” This should resolve the issue, but it’s important to note that all photos taken with the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a reduced overall quality. Unless users frequently take zoomed-in photos between 16x and 19.9x, this adjustment may not be necessary.

For users of 2023 and 2024 Galaxy phones, Samsung is currently deploying One UI 6.1.1 in various countries. The update’s primary focus is the introduction of a range of new AI features to older phones. These tools were previously exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

The new AI-powered capabilities include enhanced real-time translation in Interpreter, a Note Assist feature that transcribes and formats voice recordings, and a Sketch To Image tool that utilizes generative AI to augment hand-drawn images with additional content.
