This service provides Nigerians with an alternative method to handle their finances without requiring internet access.
PalmPay, a prominent financial platform boasting over 30 million users on its mobile application in Nigeria, has officially launched its USSD code service.
This new feature provides Nigerians with an alternative method to manage their finances without requiring internet access. By dialing *861# from their mobile devices, customers can now execute a variety of banking transactions seamlessly.
Since its inception in Nigeria in 2019, PalmPay has operated under a Mobile Money Operator license granted by the CBN. The fintech has pioneered a comprehensive model that delivers financial services, including money transfers, bill payments, credit offerings, and savings, all through a single financial ‘superapp.’
For customers lacking smartphone access, transactions can still be conducted through a vast network of over 500,000 Mobile Money Agents nationwide. The introduction of the USSD access point aims to further improve the accessibility and convenience of the platform, particularly in a market where data network disruptions are frequent.
Chika Nwosu, Managing Director for Nigeria, highlighted the company's dedication to financial inclusion, stating, "At PalmPay, we strive to close the digital access gap, and the launch of our USSD service is a step in that direction. Our platform guarantees uninterrupted connectivity for our users." He added, “Moreover, our USSD service includes a security feature that enables customers to remotely freeze their accounts if their phone is lost or stolen, offering an additional layer of financial protection.”
PalmPay has reached significant achievements in Nigeria, with over 30 million registered users on its app and 1.1 million businesses connected through its network of mobile money agents and merchants. The company has played a crucial role in promoting financial inclusion, with one-third of PalmPay users indicating that they opened their first financial account through the platform.
Recently, PalmPay was acknowledged as one of the World’s Top 250 Fintech Companies in 2024 by CNBC and Statista.
PalmPay is reinforcing its status as a key player in Nigeria's fintech landscape by offering a user-friendly interface, dependable transaction processes, and a commitment to increasing market share through no-fee transfers and promotional offers.
