Nigerian athlete Ugwunwa secured the silver medal in the javelin event at the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Flora Ugwunwa of Nigeria has secured a silver medal in the women’s Javelin F54 event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

She achieved a second-place finish with a throw of 19.26 meters, trailing behind Uzbekistan's Nurkhon Kurbanova, who set a new world record with a throw of 21.12 meters.

Ugwunwa's accomplishment marks Nigeria's first medal in the women's Javelin category, contributing to a total of four medals for the country thus far.

At 40 years old, Ugwunwa continues to excel, having now earned three consecutive Paralympic medals—two golds from Rio and Tokyo, along with her silver from Paris.

The bronze medal was claimed by Iran's Elham Salehi, who recorded a throw of 16.24 meters.

Other medalists representing Team Nigeria include Onyinyechi Mark, Eniola Bolaji, and Esther Nworgu.
