Traders of Africa, AliExpress, and MoMo have formed a strategic alliance to revolutionize the e-commerce sector in Nigeria by facilitating access to international products while ensuring secure local payment methods and reliable delivery services.

This partnership was announced at a press conference held in Lagos and is designed to provide consumers with a smooth shopping experience, including competitive pricing, special discounts, and expedited shipping.

A statement released on Monday highlighted that this collaboration will also support local entrepreneurs and contribute to economic growth by improving digital infrastructure.

The CEO of TOFA, Uju Uzo-Ojinaka, mentioned that, “We are thrilled to bridge the gap between Nigerian consumers and global markets. Seven years ago, we set out to create an ‘Alibaba for Africa.’ Now, with AliExpress, Speedaf, and MTN MoMo, we have made that vision a reality.

“People can now buy not only African products but also over 200 million items available on AliExpress. This partnership ensures easy payment in local currency through MoMo and reliable delivery with Speedaf.”

The integration with MTN MoMo facilitates transactions in Nigerian Naira for customers, while Speedaf, a logistics provider, efficiently manages deliveries to customers’ designated addresses nationwide.

“Speedaf is also a partner with AliExpress, ensuring that products purchased by Nigerians are delivered promptly and efficiently,” Uzo-Ojinaka added.

“We call it ‘shopping without borders’ because now, with just your phone, you can shop globally and pay locally.”

This initiative is in line with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area, with TOFA acting as an implementation arm in Nigeria, enabling the integration of vendors and consumers across the continent.

The Director of aliExpress Business Africa Key Account, Geoffrey Jiang, conveyed enthusiasm regarding the partnership, highlighting its potential to improve the e-commerce landscape in Nigeria.

“With TOFA, MTN MoMo, and Speedaf, we believe we can go far in supporting digital trade across Africa,” he said.

The Chief Strategy Officer at MoMo PSB, Usoro Usoro, emphasized the significance of effective payment systems in the expansion of e-commerce.

“We are helping businesses like TOFA reach a wider audience by providing secure and seamless payment solutions,” he noted.
