The National Universities Commission has granted full approval for the Confluence University of Science and Technology, located in Osara, Kogi State, to offer Medicine and Surgery, Law, and four additional programs.

The other four programs that received approval from the commission are Physiotherapy, Radiography, Agriculture, and Agricultural Engineering.

Established in 2020 under the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello, the state-owned university received this approval through a letter dated September 5, 2024, addressed to its Vice-Chancellor by Chris J. Maiyaki, the Acting Executive Secretary of the commission.

The letter, signed by Abubakar M. Girei, the Acting Director of Academic Planning at NUC, and titled “Re: Resource Assessment Visit to Proposed Academic Programmes,” indicates that the approved programs will commence in the 2024/2025 academic session.

The commission's approval was based on a resource verification visit conducted by expert panels to evaluate the proposed academic programs at the university.

After reviewing the available human and material resources for these courses, Abubakar M. Girei stated in the letter: “I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Ag. Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from 2024/2025 academic session.”

Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS); Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT); Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad.); Bachelor of Agriculture (B. Agric.); Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural Engineering (B.Eng.); and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

"It is important to note that the current approval does not extend to the part-time delivery of the program. Prior to initiating the part-time format, a formal request must be submitted to the Commission for further evaluation.

"The program will only be recognized under the approved title and designation, and any modifications will necessitate the Commission's approval. The University is required to ensure sufficient human and material resources are allocated for the successful development and advancement of the approved program."
