Adunni Ade expresses her eagerness for diverse casting opportunities.

Renowned Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has shared her feelings of uncertainty regarding her career trajectory, while also emphasizing her deep passion for the entertainment industry.

In an interview with HipTV, Ade reflected on her development within Nollywood, where she has established a significant presence in the Yoruba film sector.

Known for her performances in productions such as Netflix’s Tokunbo and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Ade admitted that her foray into acting was not something she had originally planned.

She began her career as a model and later ventured into comedy skits during her time in the United States.

Her journey in acting commenced when Nigerian filmmaker Saidi Balogun contacted her, which marked the start of her career in Nollywood.

“I don’t know if it’s my calling. I just love entertainment. I started off as a model many years ago and transitioned into comedy skits while still in the States. I would post on YouTube, and one day I got a call from Saidi Balogun. That was when I started flying back to Nigeria for films, and eventually, I decided to move here permanently,” Ade recounted.

Despite her accomplishments, Ade acknowledged the obstacles she encounters while navigating her career in Nollywood, recognizing that every industry experiences both successes and setbacks.

She expressed appreciation for her sustained on-screen presence but stressed the necessity for further industry expansion.

“Nollywood is growing and getting the recognition it deserves, but there’s always room for improvement. I’m grateful to still grace everyone’s screens and hope I do a great job portraying the characters I play,” she added.

Ms. Ade also brought to attention a prevalent challenge encountered by numerous actors within the industry, namely typecasting.

She earnestly implored producers and directors to acknowledge her multifaceted abilities and refrain from confining her to conventional and limiting roles.

“A lot of times, I’m seen as fragile, and that sometimes limits the roles I’m offered. I don’t want that. I can switch up and take on different characters. I can handle ghetto scenes just as well as more refined roles. My switch game is top-notch,” she stated, urging filmmakers to explore her range of talents.
