Following his leadership of France’s Olympic team to a silver medal at the Paris Games, Thierry Henry announced his resignation from his coaching position on Monday. The French soccer federation indicated that he cited personal reasons for his departure.
Henry, a legendary figure in French football, had a contract that extended into the next season and was scheduled to take charge of the France under-21 team next month as they prepared for the qualifying rounds of the 2025 European Championship.
Philippe Diallo, president of the federation, expressed gratitude for Henry's contributions, commending his “great professionalism, rigor, and passion for the blue jersey.”
Henry was appointed a year ago with the Paris Olympics as a focal point and successfully guided the team to the final on August 9, where they were narrowly defeated 5-3 by Spain after extra time at Parc des Princes.
In the aftermath of the final, the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker provided a vague response regarding his future, hinting at uncertainty about continuing with the U21 team.
“Winning the silver medal for my country at the Olympic Games will always be one of my life’s proudest achievements,” Henry stated in a release on Monday.
