Rosemary Chukwuma, a Nigerian athlete participating in the women’s 100-meter event at the current Olympic Games in Paris, has successfully advanced to the semi-finals.
During Heat 5, Chukwuma secured the third position with a
time of 11.26 seconds. She trailed behind Ewa Swaboda from Poland, who finished
in 10.99 seconds, and Dina Asher-Smith from Great Britain, who completed the
race in 11.01 seconds.
Chukwuma is one of two athletes representing Nigeria in this
particular event. Unfortunately, the other representative, Tima Godbless,
despite a promising start, finished in sixth place during Heat 7 and will not
be progressing further in the competition.
Regrettably, another Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili, who was
anticipated to participate in the event, was not registered. This development
has garnered significant criticism and backlash directed toward the relevant
sports authorities in Nigeria.
Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith from Cote d’Ivoire emerged as the
fastest athlete during the heats, achieving a remarkable time of 10.87 seconds,
which is below 10 seconds. Shelly-Ann Frasher-Pryce from Jamaica secured the
second position with a time of 10.92 seconds, while Gina Luckenkemper from Germany
came in third with a time of 11.08 seconds.
The semi-finals and final rounds of the women’s 100-meter
event are scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 3rd.
