On Tuesday, the Nigerian Stock Market continued its upward trajectory from the previous session, increasing investors' portfolios by N271 billion.
The market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Ltd.
(NGX) opened at N55.166 trillion and rose by N271 billion, or 0.49 per cent, to
finish at N55.437 trillion.
The All-Share Index also saw a gain of 0.49 per cent,
equivalent to 473 points, closing at 96,510.13, compared to 96,037.28 on
Monday.
The market's positive performance was largely driven by
strong investor interest in Tier-one banking stocks, including Guaranty Trust
Holding Company (GTCO), Zenith Bank, FBN Holdings, United Bank for Africa
(UBA), and Access Corporation, among other advancing equities. Consequently,
the Year-To-Date (YTD) return increased to 29.07 per cent.
Additionally, the market breadth was favorable, with 49
stocks gaining and 14 declining.
Leading the gainers were John Holt, Julius Berger, Neimeth
International Pharmaceuticals, and Total Plc, each rising by 10 per cent to
close at N3.08, N143, N2.20, and N619.30 per share, respectively.
Skye Shelter Fund (SFSREIT) experienced a notable increase
of 9.99 percent, closing at N134.90 per share. In contrast, UPL topped the list
of decliners, falling by 9.58 percent to end at N2.17.
Cutix Plc followed closely behind, decreasing by 6.25
percent to close at N3 per share. Vitafoam recorded a loss of 5.17 percent,
finishing at N18.35, while Transnational Corporation saw a decline of 5.08
percent, closing at N11.20.
Additionally, Linkage Assurance dropped N5, concluding at
95k per share. Market analysis indicated that trade turnover increased compared
to the previous session, with transaction values rising by 45.08 percent.
A total of 443.16 million shares, valued at N5.64 billion,
were traded across 8,493 deals, compared to the prior session's 390.51 million
shares worth N3.88 billion in 9,242 deals.
For the second consecutive session, Veritas Kapital led in
trading volume with 83.08 million shares, while Access Corporation topped the
value chart with transactions amounting to 1.06 billion.
