A key point of interest is the arrival of five new managers,
some of whom are making their Premier League debuts while others are familiar
with the league’s landscape.
These new managers will face the significant challenge of
competing against seasoned winners such as Pep Guardiola, his formidable rival
Mikel Arteta, and a host of other experienced Premier League coaches.
With the league scheduled to run until May, this season
promises to be a captivating display of strategic prowess and unwavering
determination.
Here’s a closer look at what’s new this season from the EPL
website:
Arne Slot (Liverpool)
Arne Slot, a 45-year-old Dutch football manager, has been
appointed as the new head coach of Liverpool Football Club.
Slot joins Liverpool after a successful three-year tenure at
Feyenoord, where he won the Eredivisie title, the Dutch Cup, and reached the
final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022.
Slot’s first match in charge of Liverpool will be an away
fixture against newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday, August 17.
Enzo Maresca (Chelsea)
The appointment of Italian coach Enzo Maresca as Chelsea’s
new head coach was announced in early June, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino.
Maresca brings with him a distinguished track record, having
successfully led Leicester City to an immediate return to the Premier League by
securing the Championship title last season, following their relegation in the
2022/23 season.
With nearly 20 years of experience as a midfielder,
including a stint at West Bromwich Albion, Maresca also has ties to Manchester
City, where he served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant in 2022.
In an intriguing twist, Maresca’s first Premier League match
will see him face his former mentor, as Chelsea hosts Manchester City on
Sunday, August 18.
Kieran McKenna (Ipswich)
Kieran McKenna, a young and accomplished football manager,
has led Ipswich Town to consecutive promotions since his appointment in
December 2021. Under his leadership, the club has achieved its first appearance
in the esteemed Premier League since 2002.
Following an unfortunate injury that prematurely ended his
playing career at the age of 22, McKenna transitioned into the coaching field.
He held various academy-level positions at renowned football clubs such as
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, demonstrating his dedication to
nurturing young talent and fostering their development.
Subsequently, he joined the first-team coaching staff at Old
Trafford, working alongside esteemed managers José Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick.
McKenna’s Premier League debut will be a formidable
challenge, as Ipswich prepares to host Liverpool on August 17.
Russell Martin (Southampton)
At the age of 38, Russell Martin successfully led
Southampton Football Club to promotion during his inaugural season at St. Mary’s
Stadium. This achievement marked the club’s swift return to the Premier League
after a brief one-year absence.
Martin, a former defender with extensive experience in the
Premier League, having made 125 appearances for Norwich City, also possesses
managerial experience at MK Dons and Swansea City.
His inaugural match as a Premier League manager will be an
away fixture against Newcastle United, scheduled for August 17th.
Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton)
Fabian Hurzeler, recently appointed as Brighton & Hove
Albion’s head coach at the age of 31 years and 110 days, is poised to make
history as the youngest head coach to lead a Premier League match. He is
scheduled to take charge against Everton on August 17 at the age of 31 years
and 180 days.
Significantly, Hurzeler will also hold the distinction of
being the first Premier League head coach born after the competition’s
inception in August 1992.
During the previous season, he demonstrated his coaching
prowess by successfully guiding German second-tier club St Pauli to promotion
to the Bundesliga.
August 16: EPL begins
The Premier League is poised for an exciting season as five
new managers join the ranks, bringing fresh perspectives and strategies to
challenge established leaders like Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.
With the campaign extending through May, fans can anticipate
a dynamic and competitive atmosphere marked by innovative tactics and intense
matches.
Community Shield – Aug. 10
This year's Community Shield features a Manchester derby and
is customarily held at Wembley Stadium, having been a fixture in English
football since 1908.
It is regarded as a significant domestic trophy, although it
does not form part of the standard league or cup competitions. Manchester City,
the reigning Premier League champions, will compete against Manchester United,
the winners of the FA Cup.
The match is set for Saturday, August 10, 2024. The
Community Shield is an annual football event in England that marks the
traditional kickoff for the new football season. It is contested between the
champions of the Premier League and the FA Cup from the preceding season.
In instances where the same team secures both the Premier
League and the FA Cup, the match is held between the Premier League champions
and the FA Cup runners-up.
