Emem Isong-Misode, a trailblazing female producer, screenwriter, and director in Nollywood, has now joined the ranks of Nigerian celebrities who hold doctoral degrees.

After relocating to the United States several years ago, the acclaimed producer known for works such as ‘The Breaking Point,’ ‘Reloaded,’ and ‘Private Sin,’ as well as ‘She Devi,’ recently earned a doctorate in Film and Media Arts from the University of the Creative Arts in the United Kingdom.

Her four-year program involved extensive research on the emergence of hybridity in the construction of identity within Nigerian Nollywood cinema.

Drawing from her over 25 years of experience as a filmmaker, she stated that her study was deeply informed by her professional journey.

In celebration of her achievement, Emem expressed, “It has been a full circle of this doctoral research at the University of the Creative Arts, to which I am grateful for supporting me on this journey. 2020 to 2024 – four years of grueling study. And now, two hours after a comprehensive viva presentation, feedback, and recommendations, I humbly present to you, Dr. Emem Isong Misodi (PhD).”

This milestone coincides with her preparations for the second edition of her film festival, the African Cultural Film Festival (AFFRICUFF), which will take place in Houston, United States, from October 25 to October 29, under the theme ‘Cultural Resilience: Strength In Diversity.’
