After a two-year hiatus, Will Smith has made a triumphant return to the awards show stage.
The esteemed actor, known for his iconic role in “The Fresh
Prince of Bel Air,” made his debut performance on the prestigious BET Awards
stage on Sunday. He delighted his fans with the live premiere of his latest
musical creation, titled “You Can Make It,” in collaboration with the talented
Friday and the renowned Sunday Service Choir led by Kanye West.
Taraji P Henson introduced her esteemed colleague, Mr.
Smith, with heartfelt emotion. Mr. Smith made a grand entrance, appearing
amidst a mesmerizing ring of fire, setting the stage for his captivating
performance.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this right now, but
whatever’s going on in your life right now, I’m here to tell you, you can make
it,” said Smith more than two years after the fallout from slapping Chris Rock
onstage during the 94th Academy Awards.
The choir respectfully accompanied him on a raised platform
before respectfully gathering around him in a circle. Gospel artist Kirk
Franklin also respectfully stepped up from the audience to join Smith on stage.
“Nobody gets an easy ride,” said Smith as the music faded
out. “We all have a cross to bear, but there is wisdom in that fire, and every
single moment of your life is a brand new opportunity. We are not being
punished, we are being forged. Dance in your darkest moments.”
Smith released the single on Friday from his upcoming fifth
studio album Dance in Your Darkest Moments, which comes nearly 20 years after
his last album Lost and Found.
The actor’s recent performance follows his surprising
appearance at Coachella during J. Balvin’s rendition of ‘Men in Black’, where
he donned the iconic black suit from the 1997 film.
