Tyler Adams, the captain of the United States, will not be able to participate in the beginning of the Premier League season as he undergoes recovery from back surgery, as stated by Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.

Adams was absent for most of the previous season due to a hamstring issue, and following a brief comeback, he concluded his first season with Bournemouth due to back spasms.

The 25-year-old Adams completed a full match for the U.S. in their 1-0 defeat to Uruguay at the Copa America on July 1. Iraola informed the BBC that the defensive midfielder underwent surgery two days later.

“He is out for some time,” Iraola said. “It is difficult to say how long but he won’t be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don’t know.”

Iraola was questioned about the reason behind Bournemouth's decision not to prevent Adams from participating in international duty.

“It was not our choice. It is a decision for the nations, who are allowed to select players, and he wanted to play thinking the injury would get better but he felt it was getting worse,” the BBC quoted him saying.

Adams made the move to Bournemouth from Leeds during the previous summer.

The Cherries are scheduled to face Wrexham in an exhibition match this Saturday in Santa Barbara. Their Premier League campaign kicks off on Aug. 17 with a match against Nottingham Forest.
