The Senate confirmed Mr. Bello Olatunji’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC on Tuesday.

In June, President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Mr. Bello as the new FCCPC Boss, succeeding Babatunde Irukera, who was removed in January 2024.

The Senate confirmed Bello’s appointment after considering the report presented by Senator Suleiman Sadiq, representing Kwara North, during the plenary session on Tuesday.

The President anticipates that the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the agency will effectively fulfill the Commission’s mandate to safeguard and advance the interests and well-being of Nigerian consumers. Additionally, the CEO is expected to implement measures that ensure the safety and quality of goods and services.

Mr. Bello, a distinguished legal professional, accomplished administrator, and esteemed journalist, holds the esteemed position of former Secretary to the Lagos State Government. He possesses a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the prestigious University of Lagos, where he also obtained his law degree. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002, Mr. Bello commenced his illustrious career in journalism at Concord Newspapers in 1985. Recognized for his exceptional contributions, Mr. Bello was bestowed with the prestigious US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship. In 2001, he was appointed Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers, where he continues to demonstrate his expertise and leadership in the media industry.

He also held the position of Commissioner for Environment under various administrations in Lagos State.

Mr. Bello brings a wealth of experience to the FCCPC, and we are confident in his ability to be a strong advocate for fair competition and consumer protection in Nigeria.

Mr. Bello was warmly welcomed to the Commission by Mr. Adamu Abdullahi, Executive Commissioner of Operations, and Mr. Kola Alabi, Executive Commissioner of Corporate Services.

Prior to Mr. Bello’s arrival, Mr. Abdullahi capably served as the acting chief executive of the Commission.
