Sabalenka Withdraws From Wimbledon Due to Injury

The Australian Open champion and world number three Aryna Sabalenka has regrettably withdrawn from Wimbledon on Monday due to a shoulder injury, as officially announced by the tournament organizers.

Sabalenka, a two-time semi-finalist at the All England Club, has been replaced in the draw by Russian lucky loser Erika Andreeva. Andreeva will face American qualifier Emina Bektas in the first round.

Ms. Sabalenka, age 26, subtly indicated over the weekend that she might be compelled to withdraw after sustaining an injury during the recent Berlin tournament.

“I’m not 100 percent fit now,” admitted the Belarusian.

When questioned on Saturday about the possibility of her withdrawal, she responded: “There is always a chance, yeah.”

“It’s really a specific injury, and it’s really a rare one.”
