The Nigerian delegation, led by flagbearer Tobi Amusan and team captain Anuoluwapo Opeyori, participated in the spectacular and historic opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday evening.

Despite the rain, athletes cheered enthusiastically along the Seine as over 200 national delegations paraded through the heart of Paris, passing iconic landmarks such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, and the Musée d’Orsay.

For the first time in Summer Games history, the opening ceremony was not held in a stadium.

Nigeria, in its vibrant and elegantly designed green and white attire, utilized a boat as its mode of transportation. Amusan, supported by Opeyori, proudly held the flag aloft as the delegation sailed across.

Team Nigeria will be represented by a total of 88 athletes, including 63 women and 25 men, who will participate in 12 different sports at the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Over 10,500 athletes are anticipated to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games, marking a century since Paris last hosted the prestigious event.

Commencing on Wednesday, the competition will witness the awarding of the first of 329 gold medals on Saturday, culminating in a grand closing ceremony scheduled for August 11th.
