The Lagos State Government has graciously extended the amnesty period for owners and developers of existing buildings lacking Planning Approvals within the State by an additional three months.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made this disclosure on Wednesday in Alausa, Ikeja.

Olumide reported that due to the high volume of applications received since the commencement of the amnesty programme, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has authorized a three-month extension of the programme, commencing on August 1 and concluding at the end of October 2024, in order to accommodate a larger number of beneficiaries.

The Lagos State Government announced an amnesty period of 90 days, from May 2nd to July 30, 2024, for owners and developers of existing developments to obtain Planning Permits without incurring statutory penal fees associated with erecting buildings without prior approval.

In addition to the waiver of late fees, the program also offers a discount for payments made within 10 business days during the grace period.

To be eligible for the amnesty program, applicants must submit the following documents for evaluation to the District Offices of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) in the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State or the Electronic Planning Permit (EPP) office at the LASPPPA Headquarters in G.R.A Ikeja:

- Title document or proof of ownership

- Survey plan

- As-built architectural drawings

- Structural, electrical, and mechanical drawings (if applicable)

Additional documents required for evaluation include: Non-Destructive Integrity Test Report (if applicable), Letter of structural stability and indemnity (if applicable), Land Use Planning Analysis Report, proof of tax compliance, and any other relevant supporting documentation.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu Administration instituted the amnesty programme to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship on the built environment sector and equally enhance compliance to Physical Planning regulations to guarantee a livable, organised, orderly and sustainable built environment,” Olumide stated.
